Volunteer
How can I volunteer?
To obtain a list of current volunteer opportunities, you can contact the office or visit the kiosk in the Fellowship Hall, under the heading "Volunteer Here". Volunteers sign up for specific dates and times for various activities.
What Volunteer Opportunities do you have?
Volunteers are always needed, and there are a myriad of selections to choose from. We are always in need of greeters and hospitality team members. We also have a safety team, communion assistants, Altar Guild (setting up and cleaning up communion), and people who read the scriptures aloud during worship. This is not an exhaustive list. Please contact the office for more opportunities.
What if change my mind?
If you volunteer for something and find that it isn't for you, that's no problem. We thank you for trying something new, and we're happy to put you in contact with other volunteer groups that you may enjoy more.
Care Ministry
What is Care Ministry?
The Care Ministry team visits those who are homebound or ill and unable to make it to the church building. They often bring communion to these people when requested, send cards and letters, or just spend time in fellowship with one another.
Is there any training?
Yes, our Care Ministry leader is happy to talk with you about best practices, tips, and tricks for ministering to the homebound and the ill. We also provide a guide for giving communion and our Pastors are happy to answer any questions you may have.
Will I have to provide nursing care?
No, the care ministry team exists solely to bring joy and compassion to the Gloria Dei community. Our job is to foster relationships by providing fellowship opportunities and the occasional card or care package.
Prayer Shawl Ministry
The Prayer Shawl Ministry group meets once per month to knit and/or crochet lap blankets and prayer shawls for the people in our congregation who may need some extra care. The yarn for these projects is provided by a dedicated fund for this group. You will only need to supply your own crochet hook or knitting needle. All skill levels are welcome to join. Our only requirement is that anything you make using the provided yarn is turned into Gloria Dei to be distributed to those who need it.
